Painting outdoors is always refreshing and informative. And I have learned that it is useful to revisit locations to develop a familiarity with them. It had been a couple years since I had set up at Natural Bridge State Park (Rockbridge County, VA). My partner Cheryl suggested we visit some of the favorite sights in the area for paintings for upcoming shows. And that sounded good and I took my time laying/drawing out the shape of the bridge and then used an old cut-up credit card to use to lay in the color of the rocks before switching to a brush to add the colors of the highlights.
Part of the fun of this location was chatting with all the visitors who were delighted to see us set up to paint. They even stopped on their way back to check our progress. About 90% of the painting was finished that day leaving the lower path under the bridge to complete in the studio. I hope you enjoy this painting and can stop by this great landmark if you are ever in the area!
